How We Test Recliners

The Recliners Guide is a place where we enjoy being naive (in the best way) about recliners. But, as much as we would like, we can’t always try everything. People’s Choice is a category where we select the best-reviewed recliners to highlight the most convincing. This is an under-eye concealer, with many 5- and 4-star ratings. But what does that really mean?

Moving forward, let’s see at how it works: First, we look at all recliners that fall within a particular sub-category. These could be leather recliner (Amazon’s Choice) or power lift chairs on Amazon. From there, criteria are determined purely on the average customer ratings as well as the number of reviews. People’s Choice posts should have an average rating between 4.1 and 100 stars. Additionally, at least 60% must be between 4 – 5 stars at publication.

We follow the wisdom of the crowd so a greater number of reviews is better than an average rating. An under-eye concealer that has a 4.3 star rating and more than 10,000 reviews will be rated higher than one that has a rating of 4.5 stars with 1,500 reviews. The product with the most reviews and still meeting our criteria for inclusion is our best-rated. The product that meets our criteria and is among the lowest priced in its category is our best-rated (less costly) pick.

After determining the titles, we look at recliners in the category and eliminate any that don’t fit our criteria. (Aside from testing) we also read as many reviews as possible for those that do and then categorize the top ones based on what users want and what the reviewers love about them. Reviewers who claim they received the product free of charge in exchange for their review will not be quoted. We will let you know if we have written about the recliner before and include additional insights from our editors and writers. With over three years experience in reading thousands of customer reviews, we are human. If a recliner fails our sniff test, we will exclude it. We will also adjust our categories so that you can find the right recliner for you.
